english of science

fellow science faculty members out there, hear me out and distinguish for yourself whether this is true. it dawned upon me while i was studying for physics about the english of science. haha. i must be mad.

this is my theory.

biologists use simple english words especially non-specific chemical terms. maybe they're being slack in the orientation of the chemical molecules but if you had even realised, they normally don't state the full chemical name for the reagents they use thus not allowing you to know the full structure of the molecule. well then again, i don't take biology, so i'll leave it as it is. *i realised this during biochemistry lecture- and its something the chemistry lecturer mentioned*

chemists on the other hand, use really simple childish terms such as "electrophilic ATTACK" or "COLD BATHS to QUENCH the reactions". i came to conclusion (just) that maybe the concepts of chemistry may not be as apparent to the human eye as compared to say mathematics or physics where experiments can be carried and results can prove your point. to prove your point in chemistry, you probably would have to draw imaginative figures to help you visualise, not even to prove. so that's that. once again, this was something not devised by me but rather by my physics tutor who somehow questioned us whether the word "attack" was appropriate in chemistry when we asked him questions pertaining to how the neutrons BOMBARD some radioactive elements in nuclear physics class.

physicists on the other hand use really really long BOMBARSTIC terms such as "SUPERPOSITION" and sometimes even twist the proper english definitions for some of the terms such as "MOMENTS". maybe it's because physics, of the three mentioned here, have experiments that can prove your point easily. for example, just let two pendulum oscillate and there you have it. you have proven the point of driving frequency. maybe its becauase of the simplicity of matters that allows the human mind and eye to see it for yourself that allows physicists to use a bit more bombarstic terms. hmmm.

hahah. all that's mentioned is what i've gathered from my years so far in college with no prior experience to university life and its various courses, i have no idea if they still apply then. haha.

i must be going bonkers from
mugging.

mugging in courier

well then. i kinda like this font now. i don't know why. but somehow, when i type this out with this font, it makes me feel formal. haha. i dunno. rar.

mugging still in progress.

what a great way to end the semester- what a bang! haha. and so, the soccer season ended today with the finals at jalan besar stadium, with vjc and mjc competing for the champions trophy. hahaha. wheeee... i shall TRY to be a nice commentator.
WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS!

so when the game was kicked off, mjc started off pretty fast by finding the goal within minutes of the first half. fortunately, they couldn't bring the ball in. hahah. but nevertheless, they fought hard amidst the strong support from the vjc supporters and the vjc soccer boys defence, we were down 1-0 in favour of mjc. and then in the second half, woah- this was where all the action began. we found ourselves tied at 1-1 when we scored the equaliser during the first few minutes of the second half. but then again, undying mjc scored yet another goal against us bringing the score now to 2-1 in favour of the opposition. hahaha. and just when you thought we would lose and all, considering that it was already in the last 10 minutes of the game, the never-say-die victorians both in the stands and on the pitch came back and won the equaliser upping the score to a tie of 2-2. then a cross from the left flank put us up 3-2. and the final goal of the night was one by us and final score 4-2 in favour of vjc!

WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS!

but neverthelss, we still have to [frankly] thank mjc for their fight they put up agaisnt us. without them, we really wouldn't be champions. haha. jkjk. but then again, if there was ever a oscar or an emmy for this entire match, the best drama would go to mjc. i mean, time and time again, you would always see a few people lying on the ground, probably moaning and shrieking, putting on that seemingly-orgasmic look which was supposed to be painful. GET A LIFE MAN! at one instance, i recall there were two mjc soccer players rolling on the ground. wth. where got such thing? haha. no meaning lahx. and also those who feigned pain, all of them deserve the best actor award. there was one who totally fell down when there was no one near him, then rolled all around expecting someone to come see his seemingly pitiful state. in the end when no one saw, he got up and started walking. but while he was lying there, his coach was signalling to the referee bout him. and by the time the referee saw, he was already walking. within seconds, he was on the floor again. rofl. and in case you're wondering, i'm laughing not at the actions but rather the attitude. well, at least the team with a better attitude won.

WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS!

and so the afternoon started with a heavy heart chained and bound to the bus going to delta when in fact it was going to ite dover. bah. supposed to have joined the rest of the school to support our both hockey teams in their respecxtive finals, but in the end i ended up at ite dover for some world hr congress rehearsal thing. GAH. was pretty irritated with it, but i guess i shall just plainly attribute that to my fatigue and heavy heart of not being able to support the hockey teams. but here are the reeeeesults!

[CHAMPIONS] hockey girls: vjc beat sajc 1-0
[SECOND] hockey boys: vjc lost to rjc 2-0
[THIRD] badminton girls: vjc beat ? 3-1
[CHAMPIONS]soccer girls: vjc beat tjc 3-0
haha. a BIG WELL DONE to all our teams today! know you guys slogged it out real hard in the final leg of your season and yeah- the results are in! haha. as a member of the choir, i guess we can all relate to one another the feeling of being champions in our own rights huh? the feeling of achievement even when we've lost to a worthy opponent. once again ` WELL DONE `
and so, i was going back home and since i live so near to so many thousands schools, i naturally hear people talking bout stuff and all lahx. but one particular comment was made purposely i think. maybe because i was alone and they were in a group of about 4-5 people? hmmm.. all i can say is it doesn't mean that by sending your whole school down and taking up the entire stadium, you guys will win. even if our population can't be in the stadium, we would be outside cheering them on because we have something that probably you guys don't have for ALL teams (including performance groups, sports, academic teams, leadership). and that my FRIENDS is SPIRIT.
all the best tomorrow soccer boys! do what you guys do best- go out there and make soccer real and alive! we'll all be rooting for you!
May the Lord Bless You and Keep You.

how nice..

well done tennis girsl in coming in as champions of 2005/06! it must have been one hell of a ride through this season huh and not to mention the tough competition faced today! heard the score was 3-2! haha. well done! haha. thanks for believing that not all the medals and championship titles should go to one person. that'd be selfish ain't it?

ahh- i love vjc.

on another note, i've been really really tired out these few days and though in the mornings i may seem all cheery and all, talking cock like mad like that, wah lau eh~ come afternoon/ evening totally wanna plonk on the bed and sleep lahx! haha. madness. and so it all started on sov eve- staying up late to do the card for chorale. then the nights after that were spent catching up on tutoirals and copying of lecture notes. ha. so today i was so tired, i just fell asleep in the library; so happy. my first time sleeping so shuang-ly in library. haha. those photo soc guys better not take photos of me. need money wan hor! haha.

gah. i'm reminded that common tests are coming and there's that hr congress rehearsal tomorrow which nicely coincides with the hockey girls and boys finals at delta as well as the soccer girls finals at jalan besar. ARGH! *screams and waves flabby arms frantically in air* i waaaaannnnnnaaaaaa go support hockey! `blah!
i guess that's all for now. watch out for tml's entry on the results..
wheeee..

not feeling very well these few days.
and yes i'm referring to my total being.

a summary of my two days

okayy, i figure this would be quite long cause things happened from yesterday. haha.

so we were released from lessons at 11+ yesterday so that we could go down to toa payoh to support the basktball girls in theirs finals against rjc. so by the time we reached there, there was like a huge entourage of vjc people till we took the entire half of the stadium. ahha. rjc only took the centre of their half and more. still not as much as us. hahah. hmmm, maybe not so many went down because of lessons or something so i shan't comment much bout their supporters. ahah. but the match alone was the actual limelight. in fact it was more than that, it was the THING. haha. the match started off well in favour of vjc, and in fact we were leading for the next three quarters. how nice. but then again, though we were leading, rjc was nonetheless just behind us by around 2-4 points. scary huh? i can imagine the amount of stress of the players on court lahx. i mean the supporters maybe up there supporting you whenever your team gets control of the game or when you score the point, but there's always the unmentioned pressure from them that can really drive you nuts. ha. i'm not some pro sportsman in the professional circuit but i can sorta understand by being a performer on stage. that aside. in the last quarter with vjc leading by if i recall correctly 2 points, rjc slowly caught up with us and scored 10points within the last minute. in fact, if i recall correctly again, they score a majority from penalties. i guess our girls must be getting quite jittery for them to get all gropey and all thus giving our opponents the chance to score through penalties. ha. i dun really know much of the terminologies ya? ha. but in the end the score was 57-47, we lost.

but with dignity.

and that's what i really love bout vjc. we fight our hearts and guts out on the court/ pitch/ pool/ stage and even though we lose, we know that deep within our hearts the line NIL SONE LABORE is clearly imprinted in our memories. love it absolutely. and on top of that, i also take pride in our basketball girls' results, and from the clappings and wheeing from the vjc supporters at the end of the game, i believe everybody felt the same way. and that's what i really enjoy of vjc too- the taking pride of all our teams be it in sports or academic or cultural groups. when you take on our team, you take on the whole school. we enjoy the glory together and in the same way no less, we share the loss together. it's been a great game basketball girls! and though we may have lost, deep in our hearts well at least in mine, you guys rocked toa payoh stadium yesterday and to me you guys deserved champions. well done.

to all of our teams out in the finals such as the soccer boys and hockey boys and girls- all the best and may the Victorian Spirit burn within you during the match! all the best!

ha. we'll leave that to that. after the match, i went back to school by the bus that school provided and went straight to the choir room. being unable to find someone to go home with or for that matter to walk out of school with me, i studied in the choir room with edwin. after he left, i cleaned the choir room knowing that tenors have to clean it up. ha. so i helped them do their job. haha. whatever. but since then, i was feeling really really tired and all. gah. called darel and went back with him to bedok where eventually he took a bus home. i on the other hand took the same bus back to parkway because i thought i had time to go back to pasir ris but in the end i didn't. so ya, was time well spent with darel- all that bitching; ha. so i went back to parkway to mett kh and elias for guitar concert.

guitar concert was not too bad lahx. frankly, i didn't know what to expect of the concert, but overall it was quite enjoyable especially that bossa nova song and the daniel band. haha. damn, you guys seriously rock. it was really really good. haha. well done guitar ensemble. it was a good eye opener. lolx.

it was a great 2 days and just came back from choir prac of which we're going to perform for the world hr congress on 30may and the sco performance thing too. so ya. catch us then ya? ha. hmmm. alrights i better be on my way to church already. ms is gonna get real exciting!

9millionbicycles- katie melua

There are nine million bicycles in Beijing
That's a fact
It's a thing we can't deny
Like the fact that I will love you till I die
We are twelve billion light years from the edge
That's a guess
No-one can ever say it's true
But I know that I will always be with you
I'm warmed by the fire of your love everyday
So don't call me a liar
Just believe everything that I say
There are six billion people in the world
More or less
And it makes me feel quite small
But you're the one I love the most of all
We're high on the wire
With the world in our sight
And I'll never tire
Of the love that you give me every night
There are nine million bicycles in Beijing
That's a fact
It's a thing we can't deny
Like the fact that I will love you till I die
And there are nine million bicycles in Beijing
And you know that I will love you till I die

SOV part 1

SOV'06 WAS A BLAST!
hahaha. seriously it was a darn good show. hmmm, shan't say much NOW, considering that i may be some bias source, so people won't really read this entry.. but to me, we were spectacular on stage and off stage, memorable. haha. and for that i just wanna take this oppurtunity to make it public my heartfelt thanks to those who have helped make this concert a huge success (in my opinion, of course. unless verified by other blogs, hahaha)

1. God.

without Him, i would serious have achieved nothing in life, let alone get into this premier instituition and this prestigious choir. so above all else, i really must thank Him for even allowing me to enter vjchoir in the first place. and ya, of course to Him be all praise as we sang songs from our concert repertoire. amazing presence of the Spirit made all things possible!

2. vjchoir

though these one and a half years with my fellow year twos, we're really gone through so much and i guess singing songs from our once thought of cheap-skate pcc being performed at sov, it really means something to me. we're gone through the good and the bad times, and today we are who we are because of sheer hard work. we truly are the epitome of what nil sine labore stands for. and for my dear year one juniors, thanks for the memories as we prepared for not just sov but also for the italy trip. every meal we had together, every bitching session and even every tease and joke passed were all memorable. thanks for all of them. all thanks to everybody with no one unique in particular, who has ardously cooperated witht he musico and the exco in order to bring this choir to where she is today.

3. mr kwei

all his unwavering and dedicated support for us in not just the musical arena but also the administrative domain ahve proven to be valuable lessons for us to learn from. without his interpretation and direction set for the choir, we would not have achieved what the choir has achieved today- olympics champions and grand prize winner. and besides, i've been singing in his choirs since secondary one, so for not just this year and the previous years, but also for the other 4 years in vschoir (obviously more for my years in vjc), thank you sir for your dedication to this choir and all that you've done for us. thanks.

i shall post more soon. haha.

napfa

wow. to think i left the house with such a nervous heart, knowing that the next time i step into my room or even into my house for that matter, i'd have completed my napfa test. haha. and lo and behold, i'll be going home preeetty soon. ahah. just stayed back in school to settle the choreo for bridge till 9pm. haha. wth right/ but considering that concert's next week and choreo is madness, well we have to do something right/ haha. vjchoir rox!

haha. hmm, now back to napfa.

hmmm. i passed everything but failed sbj again. well, the past does not equal to the future so ya, gonna retake it next week. but next week i do like sbj first. if fail, then i straightaway go play games le. no point stay and finish the rest of the test. haha. heck. wth. haha. hmmm, i pass everything like at least a D and above to secure me a nice silver grade. then again come to think about it, i actually got a gold? hahah. carnt remember alr. crap.

for those who have been praying for me such as david, rachel, lynn, my cell and those out there whom i have not mentioned, well, thanks.

to God be the glory forever and ever.

i might go down to the hospital these few days just to check up on my heart and lungs area. have been experiencing heart and chest tightness these few days, actually since italy alr. hmmm. see how lahx. one more time, and i'm quite sure i'm gng to the docs. ahha. see how first lahx.

still, to God be the glory forever and ever.

amen.

home alone

woots! have been staying at my aunt's place for coming to one day already, and what's really cool is that there's no one here! wheee. so i've really been staying by myself for the past day and it was a cool experience lahx. what i find really cool about it was that it really gave me a glimpse of what staying at home by yourself is really like. i mean it obviously doesn't really give me a full picture of what staying at home alone is cause i don't have to clean the house whatsoever but its still an experience. ahaha.

quite fun lahx. haha. i mean you dont really have to account to anybody about whatever you do at home and all, and basically you can do anything at home lahx. haha. on top of that fact that it kinda got boring after a while cause i didn't go out at all today, it was quite an experience. and i figured that if i were to live by myself in the future, i wouldn't be staying at home the whole day in the first place, but this experience gave me much insight to what staying at home through the day is like. and still, i cannot fathom how others want to stay home during the weekends or hols. haha. hmmm. thank God for choir prac on sat. at least there's something for me to do out of home.

but what's really exciting is that everytime you come home, there's some sorta quietness and cosy-ness. yepps. something relaxing finally. haha. relax too long and ya as i've mentioned, it gets boring.

haha.
but i'm sure gonna look forward to my own apartment
in the future.
get an apartment. get a car.
get a dog (german shepherd)
GET A LIFE.
before enslaving myself once again to love.
wahahha.

experiences of pre-polling day

i guess this is one hell of an experience man. haha. from the half-day-because-of-polling-day thing to the volleyball matches played at ccab- whoo`

haah. it was damn cool lahx! being able to study at a polling centre for joo chiat grc. okay i must be sounding QUITE mad, but hey... which batch of students can actually be proud to say they had a half day because of the preparations for polling day tommorrow? haha. only we can lohx! haha. i really must be sounding mad. then again, i don't believe that i'm the only one out of dunno how many people from the instituitions all over the island who's affected by this thing who actually thinks this way; haha. now i am convinced i'm mad. haha

alrights. so when the whole school vacated the premises by 12pm, i figured only cherli, muzzy and i were the last to leave the compounds and because it was raining (wasnt drizzling hor) we took out umbrellas and obviously used them. haha. i sound like some yuting-sorta-bimbo. hah. then on our way out we saw some army personnel as in they were in their green uniform (dunno why also: its not as if they have to camouflage or something in vjc where none of the walls are green) walking in the rain carrying poles. well that really brought out the true meaning of POLLING day huh. lolx. hmm, so i was commenting to the other two how idiotic we must look carrying umbrellas while walking out in the rain- i mean we're entering ns soon.. so... heck! since we're not in yet, enjoy the carefree tai-tai life now! haha.

well then, i had to take a solo journey to bukit timah on 48 and it was really tough trying to act cool as if you know where you're going especially just when you've entered the bukit timah region. haha. so funny lahx. act cool already, then you start to feel a bit uneasy: scared you miss you stop or something. in the end cs flagged the bus to stop it so taht i can get down. haha. so no meaning lahx.

had macs and encountered an air raid. a bee-raid actually. some girls from some school there were screaming and shouting, one even ducked under the table and made quite a big hoo-ha over some big bee. haha. was damn funny lahx. where the bee was, the girls didn't dare go. so when the bee was at the door, those who were trying to escape the air raid were forced to stay indoors and continue screaming. lol. damn funny.

volleyball matches were damn good- vjc vballers: you guys totally rock and own! haha. the match was exciting, so it wasn't exactly a sleep through- ownage match. it was really quite exciting. ahah. ahhh.. i love vball since sec sch. hah. well in the end we won both games! Guys (vjc- ijc) >> 2-0; Girls (vjc- sajc) >> 2-0. wheeee~ yay. we're on the way to the finals! well done!

well, i'm off elastics for now.
congrats darren.

PUSH!

to whoever it is for:
happy labour day.
